Custom Dog & Cat Portrait Paintings UK
Every dog and cat has their own personality — the way your Labrador tilts their head, the knowing look in your cat's eyes, the way your Spaniel always seems to be smiling. A custom pet portrait from Paw & Mane captures exactly that. I'm Megan, a UK-based artist painting hand-painted portraits of dogs and cats from your photos, on premium canvas, delivered free across the UK and Ireland.
Whether you're commissioning a custom dog portrait as a gift for a pet lover, a keepsake for your own home, or a painting to honour a beloved pet who has passed, each portrait is custom painted for you.
Why Commission an oil painted Custom Pet Portrait?
A custom pet portrait is one of those gifts that genuinely stops people in their tracks. Unlike a photo printed on a mug or a generic piece of wall art, a hand-painted portrait is a real, lasting piece of artwork — something that feels personal because it is.
People commission portraits for all kinds of reasons. Many want to celebrate a dog or cat who is still very much part of the family, and love having a painting on the wall that captures their personality perfectly. Others commission a portrait as a gift — for a partner's birthday, a Christmas present, or as a way to say "I know how much you love your dog." And some come to me wanting to honour a pet they've lost, to have something beautiful and permanent to remember them by.
Whatever brings you here, the process is the same: you send me your favourite photos, we discuss what you have in mind, and I get to work painting something you'll treasure.

What is the process to commission a painting?
Commissioning a custom dog or cat portrait is straightforward. Here's how it works:
Fill out the short commission form above or drop me an email at pawandmane.portraits@gmail.com with your pet's name and a few photos. I'll come back to you within 24 hours to discuss your portrait, confirm the size, and agree on any specific details like background colour or composition.
Once we've agreed on the direction, I get started. I'll send you a progress photo once the painting is underway so you can see how it's coming together and request any changes before the final stages.
No deposit is required — you won't pay anything until you've seen the portrait and you're completely happy with it. Once you confirm you love it and the invoice is paid, I'll carefully package your portrait and ship it to you with free delivery across the UK and Ireland.
From first contact to delivery, most portraits take around three weeks. If you need it by a specific date — for a birthday or Christmas, for example — just let me know when you get in touch and I'll do my best to accommodate.

I paint portraits of every dog and cat breed — no exceptions. If your pet is a pedigree, a rescue mix, or something entirely unique, I'll capture them just as they are.
Some of the most popular dog breeds I regularly paint include Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers, Cocker Spaniels, Springer Spaniels, French Bulldogs, Cockapoos, Labradoodles, Dachshunds, Border Collies, German Shepherds, Staffordshire Bull Terriers, Jack Russells, Schnauzers, Greyhounds, Bernese Mountain Dogs and Poodles. But this is far from an exhaustive list — if your breed isn't here, don't worry. I've painted everything from Chihuahuas to Newfoundlands, and every portrait gets the same level of care and detail regardless of size or breed.
For cats, I paint all breeds and moggies equally — whether your cat is a sleek Siamese, a fluffy Maine Coon, or an ordinary tabby with an extraordinary personality.

I use high-quality oil paints on premium canvas’ and canvas panels, ensuring your portrait is vibrant, detailed, and long-lasting. Canvas panels are great if you want to frame and hang it as you can frame with regular frames. Canvas’ on the other hand can be directly hung on the wall or professionally framed.

Yes — when you fill out the commission form, just let me know your preference. Popular choices include solid colours, soft neutrals, or a simple gradient. If you're not sure, I'm happy to suggest something that will complement your pet's colouring. You can also leave it entirely to me if you'd prefer.

No deposit is required. You only pay once you've seen a preview of your completed portrait and you're fully satisfied with it. I think it's important that you can see exactly what you're getting before any money changes hands.

High-quality photos with good lighting work best. Close-up shots that clearly show your pet’s features, eyes, and unique markings are ideal. Natural light photos without harsh shadows or blurriness are perfect to help me capture every detail.

Most portraits are completed within two to four weeks, depending on the current schedule and the complexity of the piece. If you need a portrait by a specific date, let me know when you order and I'll always do my best to make it work.

Yes, I can paint two or more pets together in a single portrait. Multi-pet portraits are a popular option and they make a wonderful gift. Just mention it when you get in touch and I'll provide a custom quote based on the number of animals and size.

The quality of your reference photo has a big impact on the final portrait, so it's worth taking a moment to get it right. Here's what works best:
Good lighting makes the biggest difference. Natural daylight — outdoors or near a window — brings out the true colours of your pet's coat and eyes far better than indoor artificial light. Avoid flash photography, which flattens features and creates harsh shadows.
A close-up shot that clearly shows your pet's face and eyes is ideal. The eyes are the most important part of any portrait, and a photo where they're sharp and well-lit gives me the best chance of capturing that spark of personality. Avoid sunglasses-style squinting shots if you can.
Avoid blurry or low-resolution images. A photo taken quickly on the move often isn't quite sharp enough for detailed portrait work. A still, relaxed moment — your dog sitting calmly, your cat loafing in the sun — usually produces the best results.
Don't worry if you only have one photo that you love — I can work from a single image. But if you have a few different shots showing different angles or expressions, sending them all is really helpful as extra reference for colouring and markings.
If you're unsure whether your photos are suitable, just send them over and I'll take a look. I'll always be honest with you about what's possible.
